More Info

Shipwreck Lodge occupies the southern bank of the Hoarusib River mouth within Namibia’s Skeleton Coast National Park — the Central Concession, a protected corridor between the Hoarusib and Hoanib river systems where Atlantic fog rolls inland over dune fields that have been shifting since before recorded history. It is, officially, the least visited national park in Namibia. The only lodge inside the park. Access is controlled by design: guests drive or fly to Möwe Bay, 45 kilometres away, and are transferred in by guided 4WD vehicle on a strict schedule. No self-drive continues beyond this point.

The lodge is built for a specific kind of traveller — one drawn to remoteness as the destination, not the inconvenience. It suits nature-driven guests, photographers working the coastal light, couples who want genuine solitude, and safari travellers willing to exchange density of game for rarity of encounter. Families are accepted from age six, though the terrain, exposure, and lack of connectivity ask more of younger guests than most safari environments do.

Rates peak from July through October — the dry winter season, when desert lion and elephant movements concentrate near river systems and road conditions hold. The green season, November through April, trades game density for birdlife, clearer morning air, and measurably lower rates. A minimum of two nights is advised by the property; three is more appropriate to the depth of what this landscape asks of you.

Book well ahead. Park permit requirements and ten-room capacity mean confirmed space disappears months before peak season opens.
