Chisa Busanga Camp occupies a small tree-lined island at the centre of the Busanga Plains the northern, wetland sector of Kafue National Park in western Zambia. The camp sits inside wildlife movement corridors rather than on their edge, meaning elephant, lion, and red lechwe are as likely to pass below the elevated nests as they are to appear on a game drive. Access is limited to the dry season, and the camp’s island character is inseparable from this reality: guests are here because the water has receded enough to allow it.
Chisa suits couples seeking immersion over scale, serious birders, solo travellers, and those for whom silence is the primary amenity. Wildlife-focused leisure travellers particularly those chasing cheetah, wild dog, or the spectacle of Busanga’s black-maned lion prides will find the location exceptional. The camp is less suited to families with children under nine, and to travellers who require reliable connectivity.
The season runs June to November. August and September offer the clearest sightlines and highest wildlife density as water recedes and animals concentrate near remaining sources. The camp’s four nests mean the window for booking preferred dates is narrow: advance reservations of six to twelve months are typical for peak weeks. Guests booking a minimum of four nights with Green Safaris receive transfers included from the nearest international airport a meaningful consideration given the charter-flight access model.
Access arrives via charter flight from Lusaka (approximately one hour) or road transfer (approximately three hours), both contingent on seasonal ground conditions. Midseason nights turn cold. October brings heat. The camp is solar-powered throughout, as are the electric game-drive vehicles removing engine noise from the safari experience and defining its particular quality of stillness.
