Africa Fashion Week London returns for a run of shows and industry days from 17 to 23 August, with the main runway and exhibition programme falling on the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd. Now well over a decade old, it remains one of the largest platforms in Europe for designers working out of Africa and its diaspora.
The week is built for the trade as much as the spectacle. Catwalks sit alongside seminars, buyer networking, exhibitions and a new Shop the Runway showroom that lets visitors buy directly from the collections they have just watched. The audience is designers, buyers, stylists, students and a diaspora that dresses with intent.
What AFWL does, quietly, is treat African fashion as an industry rather than a theme – a place where emerging labels meet the buyers, press and stylists who decide what travels. For London’s African communities it is also an annual fixture, a week when the city’s fashion calendar makes room for the continent on its own terms.
