More Info

Angama means “suspended in mid-air” in Kiswahili, and the lodge takes the name literally: two camps of tented suites strung along the lip of the Oloololo Escarpment, three hundred metres above the Maasai Mara, each with a floor-to-ceiling glass frontage that turns the savannah below into a moving painting. This is the view associated with Out of Africa country, and Angama has made itself the address for it.

The suites are tented in name and architectural in fact (steel, glass and canvas at generous scale) divided between North and South Camps, each with its own mess and pool so the property never feels its full size. Days run down the private road into the Mara Triangle, the reserve’s quietest corner, with the lodge’s guides widely credentialed; the wildebeest crossings of migration season happen within game-drive range. Back on the ridge, the shamba kitchen garden feeds the table, the beading studio employs local Maasai women, and the Angama Foundation channels a nightly conservation levy into Mara-wide projects, including the photographic competition that doubles as the reserve’s archive.

Angama sells direct and through the safari trade only; rates are all-inclusive (suite, board, drives, most experiences) and sit at the top of Kenyan pricing, with migration season (July to October) the premium window and booking horizons long. The fit is couples, photographers and multigenerational parties taking the Mara at its most composed; most guests fly into the Mara’s airstrips.
