Synopsis: Your Excellency tells the story of Chief Olalekan Ajadi, a bumbling billionaire businessman and failed presidential candidate, who is obsessed with Donald Trump. Just when his campaign looks set to be another disaster, Ajadi is anointed by a major party and becomes a credible contender- all through the power of social media. As the political drama unfolds, it seems possible that even the most inept candidate, with little to offer voters except viral soundbite, dance moves, and amusing antics, can mount a serious challenge for the presidency.
Movie Review: After reading a review on Your Excellency, I was almost discouraged from going to see the movie; the writer stated that the movie looks like a comedy skit than an actual movie, without a detailed storyline. I beg to counter that opinion.
From my point of view, Your Excellency has a great storyline and has seen into the future of Nigeria with the whole “social media craze”. Almost everyone is either on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter; many are living fake lives, celebrities making money off the platforms, many promoting their businesses on the platforms and the politicians utilizing those platforms to gain publicity. Perhaps sometimes in the future, our votes will be cast on social media…lol.
The movie is filled with so many characters that will keep you thrilled till the end. In another light, the movie shows that Nigeria is filled with many jokers thus, we love to play too much. Despite the fact that Chief Ajadi had little to no plans for the country, he was still loved by the majority and his special dance ” the Ajadi dance” almost communicable. Of a truth, I almost fell for the dance too…lol.
The movie kick-started with this seamlessly flawless family of the Ajadis; Funke Akindele-Bello as Mrs. Kemi Ajadi and Akin Lewis role-played Chief Olalekan Ajadi, the Comedic duo knew how to have fun. Chief Ajadi is a wealthy politician obsessed with Donald Trump and was contesting in the presidential election for the third time with his adorable and supportive second wife, Kemi.
A movie filled with many star actors and comedians so expect a rib cracker from start till the end. The movie is really worth every bit of the hype.
