DJ Cuppy
In a Male dominated industry DJ Cuppy has been able to hold her own and bring some musical heat into the industry. Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola is her government name and she is a proud Nigerian. She never misses a beat when it comes to representing her country and overall culture. She has managed to grow her career as a DJ and has produced her own music in recent years
DJ Maphorisa
Another South African heavyweight is Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe aka DJ Maphorisa. He has managed to put his country and the continent on the map by collaborating with other African and International artists on his beats such as Wizkid, Major Lazer, Drake and more. DJ D-Ommy
Born as David Omari and representing Tanzania. DJ D-Ommy started his career at a tender age of 12 years old. He started playing professionally at 19 and has never looked back. He plays a mix of Afrobeats, Hiphop, Dance hall and House music.
He is known for his scratching skills and for becoming a DJ on popular radio stations such as Times FM and Clouds FM in Tanzania.
In 2016 he won in the category of ” The Best DJ in Africa” at the AFRIMMA awards.
Vision DJ
An award winning Ghanaian DJ who has has worked in house with popular radio station Y FM has over the years expanded into being a night club DJ. He won 3 awards at the Ghana DJ awards which included the category of the “Best Nightclub DJ” in 2018. He has perfected his craft and is seen as one of the top artists in Ghana and Africa as a whole.
There are many other talented DJs on our continent who are greatly appreciated and recognized and are the main architects who have moulded the African music industry. And as a profession which can sometimes be overlooked we wanted to share some of our appreciation for the pioneers leading the way for future DJs.
