The Perfect Weekend In Accra

I moved to Accra, Ghana about  6 months ago and had only visited once before but I absolutely fell in love. The weather is amazing, it’s serene and let’s not forget the sandy beaches right in my backyard. A vibrant but calm city with the friendliest people.

With the outbreak of Covid-19 things have slowed down a bit but there is still lots to experience, with the necessary safety precautions of course.

Below I have compiled a list of some experiences I have had that MAKE a perfect weekend out!

1. Sky bar

The weekend starts on a Thursday in Accra. Sky Bar, located in a high rise building called the Villagio, is a trendy rooftop bar with panoramic views. You can see the beautiful Accra skyline from here. There is a lovely Dj set to lift the mood and stylish people all around. This bar makes for a fun experience, I will definitely be going back.

2. Coco Lounge

On the Friday I met up with a friend for dinner at Coco Lounge. The ambiance is simply breathtaking and their food is to die for. We listened to the nice afrobeat and house tunes that were playing in the background as we enjoyed our cocktails and dinner. Make your way here before you leave Accra.

3. Front Back

A members only club reserved for the elite of Accra with its unique and intricate décor, has some of the best food and cocktails. On occasion they open their doors to the public. On the Saturday of my weekend adventure they were having a food tasting for their new menu. I bought my ticket and set out to see this new and exciting place. I got there and the staff were lovely. I sat in their back terrace which has lovely green plants and cute seats , which reminded me of a small café in the South of France. I enjoyed everything about Front/Back. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who visits Accra.

4. Labadi beach

For a relaxing Sunday, I took a trip to Labadi beach, where I enjoyed the water and sun. If you love catching some waves and don’t want to travel too far out of the city’s main areas, definitely go here. Labadi Beach Hotel is also nearby, here you can go for a quick delicious lunch or a massage at their incredible spa.

5. Weekend roundup

Additional places and monuments to see in Accra are the Kwame Nkrumah memorial, Independence Square, National Theatre or the W.E.B Dubois Centre. There are also some beautiful markets where you can pick up some beautiful Ankara fabrics, beaded work and accessories
